How-To
Import tasks from a CSV file
Add multiple new tasks from a reviewed CSV file without changing or replacing existing tasks.
Before you start
- This how-to applies to the unreleased version 1.1 Build 11 candidate.
- Prepare a UTF-8 CSV file no larger than 2 MB and containing no more than 1,000 task rows.
- Include a title column, and create any tag named in the file in Settings before importing.
- If you use the free plan, confirm the import will keep the total at no more than seven active tasks.
Steps
- Use the header title,details,date,time,duration_minutes,recurrence,tag,priority,url, keeping only the optional columns you need.
- Use YYYY-MM-DD for dates, HH:mm in 24-hour time for times, and 5 to 240 minutes in five-minute increments for duration_minutes.
- Open Settings > General > Data Management and choose Import Tasks from CSV.
- Select the CSV file in the document picker.
- Review every row in the preview. Nothing is added while the preview is open.
- Choose Add Tasks only when the file name, row count, and task details are correct.
- Return to the planner and confirm the new tasks appear on the intended dates.
Confirm the setup is working
- Each CSV row appears as a new ordinary task, including rows whose titles match existing tasks.
- A blank date uses today, a blank time leaves the task untimed, and a blank duration uses 30 minutes.
- No rows are added when validation or the active-task limit fails.
If import is rejected, check the reported row, remove unsupported columns, use A1, B1, or C1 priority format, confirm recurrence uses none, daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, every two months, quarterly, half-yearly, or yearly, and make sure every non-blank tag already exists in Settings.
