A five-question checklist for resetting your week

Review what moved forward, make a clear decision about unfinished work, adjust repeated responsibilities, and choose the first useful actions for next week.

Based on the weekly review method described by myDailyTasks. This is general planning guidance and can be used with any planner.

Five questions

Make decisions before the next week begins

  1. What did I complete, start, clarify, or move forward?
  2. Which open work should I keep to complete, split, move, or drop from the plan?
  3. What do incomplete repeated routines say about their cadence?
  4. What will I deliberately carry over, and why?
  5. What are next week's first useful actions and fixed commitments?

Five-question weekly reset

1. What did I complete or move forward?

Include useful progress, decisions, starts, and things you deliberately changed.

2. What does each piece of open work need?

Keep it for completion, split it into a smaller action, move it to a realistic time, or remove it.

If it is not startable, write a smaller visible action.

3. What do incomplete Ritual occurrences say about the cadence?

Review the repeated pattern itself instead of copying a missed occurrence into the next day. If you use another planner, treat “Ritual” as any repeated responsibility or routine.

Worked example

One week reviewed, four different decisions

For 3–9 August, the onboarding draft was finished and the team review was held. The useful win was moving the draft from an idea to something the team could review. Tuesday and Wednesday were overfilled, and three Work tasks moved. The review gives each unfinished item a different decision instead of carrying the whole list forward.

Completed
Finished the onboarding draft and held the team review
Weekly win
The draft moved from an idea to something the team could review
Useful pattern
Tuesday and Wednesday were overfilled; three Work tasks moved
Complete
Send revised onboarding draft — incorporate the finance note on Monday
Split
Research five software options — compare the top two on Tuesday
Move
Book dentist — Wednesday lunchtime
Remove
Redesign old slide deck — not needed for the release
Ritual
Move Friday expense check to Thursday at 4:30 pm; first capture receipts and flag exceptions
Week shape
Wednesday needs a lighter share; leave the afternoon unallocated after the appointment and reconsider filling every open block
Outcomes
Final onboarding document — incorporate finance note Monday; expense records current — capture receipts and flag exceptions Thursday 4:30 pm
Fixed
Monday 10 am team review; Wednesday 2 pm dentist
Wait
Slide deck polish and lower-priority software research
First visible
Open the finance note and update section two

Use the decisions in any planning system

Keep the completed checklist as a paper record, save it locally from your browser, or transfer only the decisions you need into your usual calendar or task list. The method works without a myDailyTasks account or installation.
