How-To

Set important dates and away periods

Keep important dates visible and let recurring planning account for time away.

Before you start

  • Open Settings → Calendar Rules on iPhone, iPad or Mac.
  • Calendar Rules are separate from calendars connected through Apple’s system Calendar settings.

Steps

  1. Under Important Dates, enter a title and date, choose whether it repeats annually and select a reminder lead time, then choose Add Important Date.
  2. Allow notifications if you want the optional important-date reminder. A saved date does not grant notification permission by itself.
  3. Under Away Periods, enter the period’s name, start date and end date, then choose Add Away Period.
  4. Review carryover and Ritual behaviour around those dates: away periods allow these scheduling rules to skip days when you are away.
  5. Review already scheduled tasks and appointments separately. An away period is not a command to delete them or cancel an external calendar event.
  6. Remove an outdated rule when your plans change, then add its replacement and check the affected days in the planner.

Confirm the setup is working

  • The important date and away period are listed with the chosen dates; affected future planning follows those rules.

If a reminder does not appear, check notification permission and the selected lead time. If work moves unexpectedly, review both away periods and automatic carryover settings.
