How-To
Create a myDailyTasks shortcut
Save a reusable task action in Apple’s Shortcuts app, then run it by tapping or asking Siri.
Before you start
- Open myDailyTasks and Apple’s Shortcuts app on iPhone, iPad or Mac.
- Task creation uses your normal Free or Premium task allowance.
Build a simple task shortcut
- Create a shortcutIn Shortcuts, use the plus or new-shortcut control. Search the actions for myDailyTasks and choose Add Task.
- Enter the task detailsSet Title to ‘Pack my bag’. Expand the action’s options if needed to see Date and Repeats. Leave Date unset to use the day you run it, and keep Repeats as Does Not Repeat for this first example.
- Give it a distinctive nameName your shortcut ‘Pack my bag in MDT’. This is your own shortcut name, which you can use with Siri; the app’s built-in voice phrases use myDailyTasks.
- Run it onceUse the shortcut’s run control and continue into myDailyTasks. Check that ‘Pack my bag’ appears on today’s date. Each run requests a new task, so check the result before repeating it.
- Use your voice next timeActivate Siri and say the saved shortcut name, ‘Pack my bag in MDT’. Unlock the device if requested.
Choose the task’s date and recurrence
Title is required. Date chooses the planner day; it does not set a reminder or scheduled time. An omitted Date means today. A fixed date stays fixed on later runs, so review it before reusing the shortcut.
Repeats offers Does Not Repeat, Daily, Weekly, Fortnightly, Monthly, Every Two Months, Quarterly, Half-Yearly and Yearly. A repeating task only needs to be created once; repeatedly running its creation shortcut can add separate repeating tasks.
For a different title on each run, use Shortcuts’ Ask Each Time option for Title. If you want to review all fields before saving, use the myDailyTasks New Task action instead; its optional Date selects the editor’s planning day.
Open a planner section instead
You can also use Open Today, Open Rituals, Set Up Blood Pressure Check or Open Weekly Review as actions. The app’s shortcut tiles use the shorter labels Rituals, Blood Pressure Check and Weekly Review. The Siri guide lists all six shortcuts and their voice phrases.
Confirm the setup is working
- The saved shortcut appears in Shortcuts and creates the intended task when run. Check its date and repeat setting in myDailyTasks.
If an action is missing, open myDailyTasks and look for its actions again. If a run fails, check the app’s message and task allowance before retrying. Remove an unwanted test task in the app; deleting the shortcut does not remove tasks it already created.
